Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi still play professional football, which is not surprising to some football fans because of their high level, while others believe that it is due to their amazing routines that keep their fitness levels high. Ronaldo is known to follow a strict diet, which he has kept for many years, and maintains an incredible body. He is nearly 40, yet he performs for Al Nassr and the Portuguese national team. While Ronaldo has his own routine to keep healthy and fit, Messi asked for help from his former teammate on the Argentina national team. Messi knew that he needed a nutritionist to keep healthy and fit for the rest of his career, and in 2014, he asked his teammate, Martin Demichelis, for a recommendation. Messi wanted help since he finished games very tired and needed to bring more intensity into games. The Argentine star of FC Barcelona at the time was recommended to have an Italian nutritionist from Manchester City, who Demichelis used to play for.
Messi told Juan Pablo Varsky, "In 2014, I felt that I had to make a change, that I didn't feel good and that I could get much more out of my physique, and Martín Demichelis made me meet a doctor that I went to for several years and learned a lot from him."
The Italian medic was Giuliano Poser, who helped Messi improve his diet to keep fit and be in the best shape possible. Messi removed processed food and replaced it with foods rich in vitamins, oatmeal, vegetables, fish, and olive oil. Messi went on to learn how to eat properly, which led to him feeling less tired after games and playing with more intensity, leading him to perform very well in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
While he needed help at first from the Italian doctor, Messi would then learn how to set up his healthy meals, which led to him maintaining a high level due to his nutrition. Messi said, "[Then] I added to it, changing things, returning to doing things that I did in the past. It goes a lot through the trust of the one who is guiding you, too, and trying to help. And knowing what does you good and what doesn't. I tried to grow in that sense as well, in care and prevention."
