The talented midfielder announced the surprise decision on social media.

All kids who start playing soccer dream of becoming professional players, being hired by the best teams in the world and representing their countries in a World Cup. But few make it. The road is arduous and requires not only a lot of talent, but also perseverance, effort and a bit of luck.

This attacking midfielder had all that and managed to fulfill the dreams he had since he was a child. He even became one of the best players in the world and was worth a fortune. But injuries complicated his professional career and prevented him from maintaining his high level. That's why, at the age of 32, he took the unexpected decision to retire.

He is Eden Hazard. The talented midfielder who shone at Lille, Chelsea and the Belgian national team, but never found his place at Real Madrid. He was there between 2019 and 2023, but this summer he agreed to the termination of his contract and became a free agent. After a few months in which he did not receive any satisfactory offer, he decided to turn the page.

This was announced in a post on his official Instagram account: “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time. After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer. I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates - thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all”, the message begins.

He is very grateful

Then Hazard continues: “I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thank the RBFA for my Belgian Selection. A special thank you to my family, my friends, my advisors and the people who have been close to me in good times and bad. Finally, a huge thank you to you, my fans, who have followed me for all these years and for your encouragement everywhere I have played. Now is the time to enjoy my loved ones and have new experiences. See you off the field soon my friends”.
