Neymar's arrival at Al-Hilal was one of the biggest news in world soccer this year. After being dismissed from Paris Saint-Germain by decision of the chiefs, the Brazilian forward agreed to join the Saudi Arabian side in exchange for a fortune: almost $100 million per year.
However, his first weeks at the club have not been good. First he arrived with an injury that prevented him from being part of the team's first matches in the Pro League and then he traveled to South America to join the Brazil national team for the matches against Bolivia and Peru in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
That's why his long-awaited debut only happened last Friday, in the match against Al-Riyadh. There, his team won 6-1. Ney came on 19 minutes into the second half in place of Michael De Oliveira, but was unable to score. In fact, a few minutes after his entrance Al-Hilal had a penalty, but Salem Al-Dawsari took the kick, to the disappointment of the fans.
And this Monday Neymar was in the starting lineup for the first time, in the match between Al-Hilal and Navbahor Namangan of Uzbekistan, for the first match of the group stage of the Asian Champions League. There, the Saudi team did not perform well and only drew 1-1. They had started off trailing through Tabatadze's goal 7 minutes into the second half, but Ali Al-Bulayhi scored the equaliser in the last minute.
In addition to failing to score in his first two games for Al-Hilal, Neymar Jr. seems to have other problems as well. Against Navbahor Namangan he starred in a situation that caught everyone's attention: 14 minutes into the second half he tried to play a free kick quickly and an opposing defender prevented him from doing it, so Ney pushed him and then hit him with the ball. For this reason the referee booked him.
