Tottenham and Aston Villa face each other this Sunday in London.

Tottenham have an ideal opportunity this Sunday. Should they get a win at home against Aston Villa, they will be very close to the top of the Premier League standings. The draw between Manchester City and Liverpool was positive for them, as neither of those teams could make a difference and now Spurs can take advantage of that.

With the 3 points, Ange Postecoglou's team will overtake The Reds and catch up with The Citizens, remaining in second place in the tournament and just one point behind the new leaders Arsenal, who beat Brentford with a goal from Kai Havertz near the end.

But for Tottenham it is not an easy task. Aston Villa have proven to be one of the best teams in England this season. In fact, they are in fifth place in the standings, with only one point less than them and they also need a win to get closer to Arsenal.

During the first half, it was the hosts who controlled the ball and pushed the Villans into their own half. They also had the most dangerous chances to score, such as a shot by Kulusevski that was just inaccurate and an incredible mistake by Son, when he was inside the box after a drilled cross by Brennan Johnson.

Luck was on their side

Tottenham scored the opener 22 minutes into the first half through Giovani Lo Celso. The midfielder took a rebound after a corner kick and shot with his left foot, the ball deflected slightly off Diego Carlos and made it impossible for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez to react. The curious thing about this is that Lo Celso had gone more than two years without scoring goals for Tottenham, and he broke that negative streak facing 'Dibu' Martinez, his teammate in Lionel Messi's Argentina National Team. Then, in the last minute of the first half, Aston Villa scored the equaliser through Pau Torres.
