Inter Miami are preparing to compete in 2024 and try to win as many titles as possible. Until August of this year they had never been champions, but the arrival of Lionel Messi changed everything and, in just a few weeks, they won the Leagues Cup and reached the final of the US Open Cup.
Next season will be even more demanding. In addition to competing in these two tournaments, The Herons will try to win Major League Soccer and will make their first appearance in the CONCACAF Champions League, the most important club tournament in North and Central America.
But to live up to expectations they will need to raise the level of the squad. With Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, the team improved a lot this season, but it was not enough to reach the Eastern Conference playoffs. That's why coach Gerardo Martino and the club's chiefs are working hard to sign other top players.
While it is rumored that stars like David De Gea, Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric could join, the first to arrive will not be any of them, but an old friend of Leo's: Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan striker shone at Barcelona between 2014 and 2020, forming a great attacking duo with the Argentine forward and winning the Champions League 2015 together. And now they will have the opportunity to reunite in Miami.
Suarez has a contract until December this year at Gremio and, once it expires, he will be free to join Inter Miami. This week the Brazilian team's coach, Renato Gaucho, said of this: "Are we going to miss him? Certainly, no doubt, he is very loved by everyone. I had the pleasure of working with a great professional, one of the best in the world, fourth top scorer in the world. This void will remain for the next year, because it is not easy to find someone of his talent and ability. Unfortunately, he will leave and there will be a void in Gremio's attack."
