The Spanish teams were supposed to face each other this Sunday at the Metropolitano stadium.

This Sunday Atletico Madrid and Sevilla were to play their match corresponding to the fourth round of La Liga. Los Colchoneros and Los Blanquirrojos had the expectation of getting a victory that would help them to achieve their goals. Diego Simeone's team had 7 points in their first 3 games and, in case of winning, they would reach the second place in the standings, only behind Real Madrid. And Sevilla need to win to get out of the last place, since so far they have lost all their matches and have no points.

However, something unexpected happened that forced La Liga to suspend the match: the weather. The forecasts assure that between Sunday and Monday heavy rains will fall over several regions of the Iberian Peninsula and especially in its central area, that is to say, near the city of Madrid. This forced the authorities to take the decision and they announced it on Sunday morning.

La Liga's statement reads: "Given the exceptional weather situation in Madrid, following the red alert warnings by the State Meteorological Agency and the recommendations of the Madrid City Council, La Liga, after having analyzed the situation and held talks during the morning with the President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the President of the Superior Sports Council and the CEOs of Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla FC, has taken the decision to postpone the match between Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla FC initially scheduled for today at 18: 30 at the Cívitas Metropolitano in Madrid. The new date and time of the match will be communicated shortly by La Liga".

It is the only match suspended

Atletico Madrid vs. Sevilla was one of the 4 matches on Sunday in La Liga. However, in the others there seems to be no risk due to weather issues. The first match of the day, between Girona and Las Palmas, was played without problems. Later, Mallorca and Athletic Bilbao will play in the east of the country, and Osasuna - Barcelona will do the same in Pamplona, in the north of Spain.
