The top assist provider leaves Ligue 1

The 2022/23 season will be remembered as the year when Leo Messi conquered the World Cup in Qatar, but the Argentine superstar managed to seal the campaign with a new personal record, adding to the extensive list of achievements he already holds, in addition to winning the Ligue 1 title with PSG.

Beyond the milestone of his World Cup triumph, where Messi led the Argentine national team with a stellar performance, the forward had a standout season with PSG. The Argentine has responded to criticism with his impressive statistics, showcasing his value to the team and solidifying himself as the perfect partner for Kylian Mbappé.

However, the fans have voiced their opinions, and while the talented Argentine was playing his last match at the Parc des Princes this past Saturday night, facing Clermont on the 38th and final matchday of Ligue 1, a portion of the Parisian supporters showed their discontent.

In fact, when the lineup of the team led by Christophe Galtier was announced, the name of the 2022 World Cup champion with the Argentine national team was greeted with boos from some of the Rouge et Bleu fans. The same happened when Messi returned to the pitch to lift the trophy as the French champion.

Despite the defeat against Clermont, Lionel Messi became the top assist provider of the season in Ligue 1 with 16 assists distributed among his teammates. Neymar ranks second with 11 assists, while the record for most assists in a season still belongs to Ángel Di María.
