Real Madrid threw $32 million away, Ancelotti doesn’t want this player

Los Merengues don't always get it right with their signings.

Los Merengues don't always get it right with their signings.

In recent years, Real Madrid was one of the best teams in Europe. With Zinedine Zidane before, and with Carlo Ancelotti now as coach, they have usually been in the final stages of the Champions League, winning it in 5 of the last 10 seasons.

This was achieved thanks to the good work of the coaches and a group of top players who have managed to get into the hearts of the Spanish fans. Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Vinicius Jr. are some of the stars who during these last seasons earned the respect and admiration of all the spectators around the world.

However, there are cases in which the story did not have a happy ending. The club has also bet on players who were never able to perform up to expectations and ended up leaving without glory. One example is Eden Hazard, for whom Real Madrid paid more than $100 million, and this summer left the club after playing very few games.

Alvaro Odriozola will have the same future and will leave La Casa Blanca, despite still having one year left on his contract. The fullback had arrived at the club in 2018 in exchange for $32 million, but never convinced with his performances and was loaned to Bayern Munich and Fiorentina. Now, at 27 years old, he is not in Ancelotti's plans for next season and would return to Real Sociedad, the team with which he debuted.

New faces needed

Real Madrid has lost more players than it has added this summer. So far, they only managed to sign Jude Bellingham, while Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz left. Florentino Pérez will have to get to work to improve the squad.
