Real Madrid lost Karim Benzema this summer, when he surprised everyone by leaving for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. This caused a problem for coach Carlo Ancelotti, who lost one of his best players. At the start of the 2023/24 La Liga season, he decided to play without a center-forward and use Jude Bellingham as a 'false 9', with Rodrygo and Vinicius as wingers.
However, Ancelotti knows that in the future it will be necessary to add an attacking player who can provide him with solutions, as now the only forward with those characteristics he has in the squad is Joselu. While the main target remains Kylian Mbappé, his situation at Paris Saint-Germain is not yet resolved. Owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi insists on negotiating the renewal of the contract that expires in June 2024, but 'Kiki' so far has not accepted any of the offers and no one knows what will happen.
With this scenario, Real Madrid have targeted another striker as plan B: Julian Alvarez. The Argentine player has had very good performances with his National Team and at Manchester City, but he has been overshadowed by Erling Haaland, who plays in his same position. Even so, he was able to stand out and scored 17 goals in his first season in England.
According to Fichajes, the Spanish club are interested in Alvarez and could start negotiations for him next summer, should Mbappé eventually decide to stay in France.
Pep Guardiola has always been very complimentary of Julian Alvarez. Despite being Haaland's understudy for most of last season, the Spanish coach claimed to be delighted with the Argentine player's performances. And this season he has given him much more involvement: in all 4 Premier League games he has been in the starting lineup and scored 2 goals.
