The Red Devils will need to find a solution for this issue.

Manchester United are having a very difficult start to the season. The team's performances in the first few Premier League games have fallen far short of fans' expectations. So far they have taken only 6 points out of a possible 12 and are in 11th place in the standings, far behind the leaders, Manchester City.

And that is not all. They have also had problems off the field, mainly due to improper behavior by some of the squad's players. Just a few days after agreeing the loan exit of Mason Greenwood to Getafe, they found themselves in a similar situation with Antony. The Brazilian winger was given a leave of absence while police in England and Brazil investigate the alleged domestic violence he was accused of. And Jadon Sancho had a falling out with coach Erik Ten Hag after not being called up for the game against Arsenal on Sept. 3.

Now Manchester United could have another problem with André Onana. This week, the Cameroon national team qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations to be played in Ivory Coast between January 13 and February 11. The goalkeeper is a key member of the African team and will surely be called up to join the national team for the tournament, so he could miss up to seven Premier League matches.

Onana arrived in England this summer from Inter for nearly $60 million. Coach Ten Hag trusts him and considers him an important player, but at the start of 2024 he will have to find a replacement for him. The Red Devils have two other goalkeepers on the squad: veteran Tom Heaton, 37, and Altay Bayindir, who arrived this summer from Fenerbahce of Turkey.

They are not the only ones in trouble

In addition to Manchester United, other clubs will also lose some of their top players during the Africa Cup of Nations. Undoubtedly, Liverpool will be the most affected, as their biggest star, Mohamed Salah, will be leaving for the Egyptian national team.
