Luis Enrique, about the differences with Mbappé: "I don't have to convince anyone"

This week newspapers, TV shows and social media were flooded with rumors and speculation about what is happening at Paris Saint-Germain. Although they managed to qualify to the round of 16 of the Championns League after a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in Germany, not everyone was satisfied.

Kylian Mbappé was one of them. He showed gestures of anger and disappointment at the end of the match, as he was not happy with the attitude that the coach and most of his teammates had had during the last minutes. They had decided to slow down and not risk attacking too much to preserve the draw that allowed them to advance to the next round, but 'Kiki' wanted to win to secure first place in Group F and have a less difficult opponent in the round of 16.

This Saturday, coach Luis Enrique gave a press conference before the match against Lille and clarified his opinion on what happened: "It's not only my decision, it's also that of my squad. I understand the players who are exposed to this frustration. For a large part of the game we had to win, that was the objective."

He was then also asked about Mbappé's position on the field in recent matches and whether he needed to talk to him to get him to agree to play in a different place. But his answer was blunt: "I don't have to convince anyone. Kylian Mbappé has the same freedom as when I arrived. He is a top player who contributes 50 goals and 25 assists. He doesn't play as a '9', he has total freedom."

They have a good chance

Now that the Champions League group stage is over, Paris Saint-Germain will be able to focus 100% on Ligue 1. There, they are the leaders of the standings with 36 points, 4 more than Nice. This Sunday, they will have the opportunity to increase that gap when they visit Lille.
