In just a couple of days Sergio Ramos agreed his arrival to Sevilla and this Monday he was officially announced as the new player of the Spanish side. Thus, the defender fulfilled his dream of returning to the club from which he emerged in 2003 and with which he played 50 games until his transfer to Real Madrid in 2005.
At his official presentation with the squad, Ramos said: "It's a very special day for me, very exciting. I'm finally going back home and I'm looking forward to the moment when I can feel the Sevilla shirt again and put this shield on my chest".
He then dedicated a message to the team's fans, with whom he has not had a great relationship while playing for Real Madrid: "It's been 18 years since I left and well, I think I've made mistakes and I want to take the opportunity to apologize in the first person and ask forgiveness from any sevillista who has felt offended by things and gestures I may have done at the time. I think we are all in the same boat, we are all from the same family and we have too many people outside to fight ourselves".
His arrival at Sevilla came at a time when he appeared to be very close to joining Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia. In fact, the club's chiefs were expecting a call from the player on Sunday morning confirming that he would join the Pro League. But that did not happen and as the hours went by, rumors of a deal with Sevilla grew. With this decision, Sergio Ramos gave up a two-year contract in Saudi Arabia and a salary of $15 million net for two years.
Next weekend there will be no La Liga matches due to the international break. That's why Ramos' debut with Sevilla will be on Sunday, September 17 against Las Palmas. And 3 days later they will play the first Champions League match against Lens.
